Sticky situation with sponcer

Postby Shannon-n-la » Mon Jun 12, 2006 9:10 am

Hi everyone, I'm new to these boards and am in the process of signing up with Slumber Parties. I have a sticky situation with my sponcer though. It came to me to sign up with Slumber Parties when my sister was having one last weekend. I did Pampered Chef a while back and did OK, but it really wasn't something that pulled me into it. Thats been a few years ago. Then lately I'd been looking for some part time work. But I've been unwilling to leave my newly adopted son. It hit me when my sister mentioned her SP last weekend.. THIS is something I could do!

The SP rep is a friend of my sister so I sent her an e-mail asking her some questions and giving her my phone number so we could talk some more. This is when it started. The SP rep replied to my e-mail and said she would be very busy the next day but would be happy to call me mid of the day on Sat (the day of my sister's party). OK fine I told her I'd be around and if something changed I'd let her know. I waited all day and she never called, that is until I'm drying my hair getting ready to go to the party. She called to get directions to my sister's house and didn't have her phone number. Fast forward to the party... We all get there and help her pull out her stuff because she is pregnant and unable to lift anything. She breifly talked to me and eventually pulled out some info for me to look over. Before the end of the party she tells me she will e-mail me with some other information/online invite to sign up.

Sunday comes and I'd been mulling over everything we had talked about and had a few more questions. So I e-mailed her. It took her 7 days to respond to my e-mail. She answered my questions and asked for my last name so she can send me that online invite. Here I am Monday morning and I've still not gotten the online invite. Also I ordered something from her party that she did not have in stock and I've not yet received it. I was under the impression that since the warehouse is right here in town I'd get my stuff rather quickly!

Now to the sticky part of it. I know she is pregnant. I also know she works full time during the week. Actually she is working 14 hours during the week at a summer camp. Only thing is where is the support for me? Where is the excitement to recruite me? I haven't signed any papers yet. I really want to do this and I'm just waiting until I've got the cash to get started. I should have that very soon and will be ready to get started. I don't know how long the summer camp is so it might be just a short delay until she is readily available. Yet I'm still pretty disapointed. Also I'm starting to factor in her age. She is only 21 (I'm 29) and has been doing this for just a little over a year. So I question just how much experience she really has and if she is going to be a very good sponcer.

I really just need some thoughts on this.

It sounds like she may not be in a position to be a very supportive upline at the moment. If you really love this company, and want to be a part of it, maybe you could look for another consultant to be your upline.

If you just want to be in a party plan company, you could look into the other many companies out there. You can find a ton of them just by surfing around on these messageboards and looking at people's signature lines.

I know I chose the company I'm with because it is brand new, sells a consumable product, and is something I thought people would love. I didn't want to be the 100th consultant in the area from one of the bigger companies and have trouble recruiting people.

So far, it is working beautifully! People do love the product, and come back for more. Plus, I am in the very top tier of my company, and I will make money from everyone who comes in below me. I have recruited four people in 8 months, so I'm happy with that!

I would say to forget about the consultant you've been working with and move on to another. She clearly has too much going on right now and wouldn't give you a good start. She obviously doesn't seem too interested in building a downline at the moment.

Take care, and good luck!

The reason why I decided that Slumber Parties would be an excellent biz for me is the products & the parties. I've been to many of these parties and have hosted many of them in the past. I've never had anyone not want to come to one of my parties, and usually get thanked for inviting them. They are so much fun, its exciting & the women enjoy it! My husband is even very supportive of me starting this venture. SO I know this is what I want to do. I'd just like a little help getting started and thats not happening with this sponcer.

Anyhow once I have the cash in my hand to sign up I know I'll find some one willing to put a bit of effort into getting me well on my way.

Hi Shannon,

You definitely want your sponsor to be someone who can help you, and if they can't that they have a supportive sponsor who will be able to help you. You aren't under any obligation to sign up with this rep just because she has supplied some info to you. If she's been in the biz for a year, she should know that she needs to follow up with you in a timely manner...unless she never goes to training or read any other training material. I have seen some young reps who are right on top of everything as well. It just doesn't sound like she is committed to sponsoring others and likely won't be much help.

That is wonderful that your husband is supporting your new business. Shannon, congratulations on finding a business you are really excited about! I hope you find a wonderful sponsor who will be excited with you. :D

I agree with the other poster that it's great you've found something you're so excited about! I hope I didn't sound like I was trying to sell you on my company before. I wasn't sure what advice you were looking for - whether you should forget working with that consultant or whether you were open to any home party plan.

I think the most important thing is to be excited about what you are selling, and you definitely are!

Good luck finding someone you can work with.

One more tip - just because you sign up under a sponsor doesn't always mean you are stuck with them if they stink. Many companies recognize that things don't always work out between people, so they provide a way for consultants to ask to be moved to a different upline. Policies vary, but I wanted to let you know that although you should be careful who you sign on under, there is quite likely a way out if it doesn't work out for you.

Take care, keep us posted on what happens! 8)

Hi! I have actually just dealt with a VERY similar situation. I wanted to sell At Home America and have been a hostess for 2 years with the same girl. Told her I was ready to sell and she said " Oh well it's really not that easy." WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? Does she not know she will make $$ off me? Ok whatever! I just emailed the company who put me in touch with another conultant in my area (although an hour away) and she has been FABULOUS!

MORAL_ If you want it-GO get it!!!! Email the company, find another consultant in your area, do whatever it takes to reach your goals! Good luck!

I just wanted to let you know that you can be a very successful consultant without a great sponsor. Now, of course, it is the best when your sponsor is awesome, but let me share my sister's story.

When she decided that she wanted to embark on a career in the romance enhancement industry she did about 6 months of research on all the companies out there. She chose Passion Parties and filled out the request on the corporate site. Her sponsor signed her up, referred her to some training sites we had and that was it! The only time she called her was when my sister had a slow month (by her choice). One call in a year!!!

Now, my sister is a go getter (and it sound like you are too) and immediately got on the phone and started working her biz. She was #5 in the nation in her group in sales last year and #20 in the entire company. She elevated to the highest level, Executive Director, and has a great team.

We always use her example as what NOT to do when you build a team, but also as an example that you CAN be successful no matter what.

I wish you the best of luck on your new business and know that with desire, determination and persitence you WILL be a huge success!

Passionately~

I hope it worked out for you!

I wnet looking for my sponsor when I decided to join Mia Bella. I spoke to several different reps and chose the one that was right for me and my business. It is acceptable and ok to do.

I agree with Trishia, you can be successful with or with out a good sponsor! Your success is up to you. I’m sure Slumber Parties has a training manual, like almost all the companies do. That should have some very good info. You can always contact the company and ask for a different sponsor before you sign up. :)
