We took a different approach with our home party sales company. We looked around at some of what was being sold by other companies and decided that no one really offered a mix of items that we really liked or really felt we could stand behind. So we started our own company, Nightfall Fashions. We do about 30% lingerie, 30% adult toys, 20% massage oils, lotions and other items, and 20% books.
We test all of our products before making them a part of our line, and we reject those that we don't like. We offer product reviews and articles on our website, and we also have a webstore with a slightly different selection than that in our catalog that we use for the home parties.
There are definitely more costs associated with this approach. For example, we have to develop our own catalogs. But this approach gives us so much more freedom - we can really get behind every product that we sell. If we have an idea, we can experiment with it at our discretion. I love that.
So, how is it going for us? We've just launched, but so far things are looking really promising. And we're having a great time, which to me is the best measure of success.
